Michael Ducatte, a student in the fully asynchronous online MSW program, recently saw the influence of his coursework expand beyond WSSW. As part of Professor Katherine Kelly’s Advanced Policy Advocacy course, Michael composed a Letter to the Editor, which was published on March 3rd, 2025, in the , a newspaper based in Albany, NY.
Michael advocates for more help for children in poverty, highlighting how policies profoundly affect children’s daily lives in many ways. Some solutions include housing assistance, affordable childcare, and tax credits. Calling the public’s attention to issues that affect social workers’ clients is an excellent example of social work policy practice and advocacy in action.
