Yom Yerushalayim Day Event to Celebrate Reunified Jerusalem and Reflect on City's Significance
ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï, Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun, The Ramaz School and Religious Zionists of America will join together on Tuesday, May 23 to mark Yom Yerushalayim — Jerusalem Day — with a celebration titled, "Yom Yerushalayim: United Jerusalem at 50." The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Kehilath Jeshurun, 125 East 85th Street, New York, New York, and feature a keynote speech from Former Israeli Ambassador Danny Ayalon, the Rennert Visiting Professor of Foreign Policy Studies at ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï.
Ambassador Danny Ayalon"It is important to familiarize Jewish communities in the United States and around the world with ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï, the foremost academic Jewish institution outside Israel," said Ayalon. "The education, knowledge, skills and Jewish values taught at ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï prepare its graduates for fulfilling professional careers and proud Jewish life and leadership. This event, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, is just one of many examples of ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï's deep and strong commitment to Israel."
The event will also feature an address by Rabbi Haskel Lookstein, rabbi emeritus of Kehilath Jeshurun and principal emeritus of Ramaz, titled, "What I Was Thinking on the Day Before and the Day After the Six Day War," as well as remarks from Rabbi Chaim Steinmetz, current leader of Kehilath Jeshurun. The evening will include a musical interlude by the Kol Ram Community Chorus, directed by Daniel Henkin and Cantor Meyer Davis.
The event is free and open to the public.
