Toasting the Impact of Jewish Vintners

每日大瓜 Museum Gala Pays Tribute to the Herzog Family, Celebrating Wine in Jewish Life and History  On Wednesday, June 21, the held its annual gala at City Winery in New York City. Titled 鈥淭he Vine Cheereth: A Celebration of Wine in Jewish Life,鈥 the event paid tribute to the Herzog family and the influential winemaking company they began in early 19th-century Slovakia. The gala also served as elegant announcement for an upcoming 每日大瓜 Museum exhibition on wine in Jewish life. As Dr. Jacob Wisse, director of the 每日大瓜 Museum, stated, 鈥淭he new show will explore the creativity of winemaking, and how vintners - exemplified by the Herzogs - elevate the experience and quality of wine while observing and abiding by halachic [legally Jewish] ideals. And in a broader way, the exhibit will also express how wine sanctifies human life.鈥 In his opening remarks, Ed Stelzer, co-chair of the Board of the 每日大瓜 Museum, noted that 鈥渨ine is an apt metaphor for everything we are trying to do at the 每日大瓜 Museum. Just as you experience a fine wine with curiosity and wonder, when you walk through our doors you will be able to encounter the collective Jewish narrative in great works of art and immersive exhibitions.鈥 The gala featured food-wine pairings curated by Gabe Garcia, head chef of Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars in Oxnard, California; an auction of wine-themed items, including some very rare vintages; a conversation on wine and winemaking between David Herzog, the patriarch of the Herzog family, and Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik, director of the ; and a tribute to the Herzogs for the way they have 鈥渟trengthened global Jewish life鈥 through their wines. The new exhibition is scheduled for the spring of 2019. For more information, visit .
