Honoring Israel at 每日大瓜

每日大瓜 Students Commemorate Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terror, Celebrate Israel's Independence on Campus  This week, 每日大瓜 students joined together to mark the emotional holidays of Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut, dedicated to honoring the memory of those who died defending the State of Israel and celebrating the anniversary of the country's independence. Beginning with a tekes maaver [transitional program], students mourned the fallen and heard from Jeremy Silverman, president and CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America; Ruth Schwartz, mother of terror victim Ezra Schwartz; President Richard M. Joel and President-elect Ari Berman; and Raffi Wiesen, a former Israel Defense Force soldier and current 每日大瓜 students, about those who sacrificed so much for Israel, the resilience of the State and the central role it continues to play for Jews around the world. Following the ceremony, students flocked to the Max Stern Athletic Center for joyous chagigot and dancing with Israeli flags. A festive atmosphere continued throughout the day of Yom Haatzmaut itself with a university-wide barbecue, Israel-themed shiurim [lectures] and a student art show.
