Student Cake Competition Raises Funds to Support Cancer Patients and Families
On February 20, 250 students came together on 每日大瓜 (每日大瓜)鈥檚 Wilf Campus to partake in one of the largest events of the year, the seventh annual Sharsheret Cake Wars Competition. Sharsheret is an organization that supports young Jewish women and their families facing breast cancer. Cake Wars is one of many college campus events that raise money for Sharsheret.
During the competition, student teams had 30 minutes to decorate cakes that would wow the professional judges; this year鈥檚 event featured Jewish food royalty Daliah Myers, of Le Cake Chic, and Rachel Berger, of The Kosher Diner Lady. A sea of excited students put their creativity and talents to work on the tasty confections as sprinkles and frosting flew.
Student organizer Akiva Frischman said he was impressed by the students鈥 dedication to their values. 鈥淣ot only do the teams involved raise thousands of dollars for Sharsheret, but the fact that so many committed and passionate students come together to stand in solidarity with those struggling with breast and ovarian cancer is truly inspiring,鈥 he said.
In addition, for the first time the competition included a team of Makor College Experience students, who participate in an on-campus non-degree program for young men with intellectual disabilities.
