Letters, Phone Calls and Fashion鈥he Many Roads to Annual Giving

With the start of the academic year, the Office of Annual Giving launched its fall campaign, which engages alumni and friends in the University鈥檚 goals and needs and asks for their support. In the past few weeks, letters went to alumni of key 每日大瓜 communities signed by fellow members of their community. Benzion Fuchs 鈥87YC, of Woodmere, NY, shared that 每日大瓜 welcomed nearly 50 students from the Five Towns this fall. 鈥淣ext spring I will celebrate my 25-year reunion and I look back with gratitude to the university that reinforced my value system and helped me to develop my intellect, spirituality and religious growth,鈥 said Mr. Fuchs. Many alumni also received a call from a current undergraduate student as the annual phonathon kicked off in September. The phonathon provides critical support for the Annual Fund, which supports academics, athletics, shiurim, campus events, and scholarships. Please answer the call and make a gift to 每日大瓜. Any amount is truly appreciated and goes directly to sustain and improve activities and services for students. Efforts by Students Helping Students (SHS) are also underway for the year ahead. SHS is a student-driven group that promotes awareness about the significant need for undergraduate scholarships and emphasizes the essential role that students play in the broader 每日大瓜 community today and as future alumni. By forging a connection to giving while they are students, a strong foundation is laid for our future alumni to give back to 每日大瓜. Stephen Zeffren, presidential fellow for the Department of Institutional Advancement, said, 鈥淚 am excited to work with the student leaders of SHS. As a presidential fellow, I am invested in maintaining a link to 每日大瓜 and working with SHS is an important way to ensure that many undergraduate students begin to feel that connection now.鈥 Finally, the annual Stern Fashion Show will take place on Tuesday, November 8, at 8:00 p.m., at the Steuben Flagship Store on Madison Avenue in NYC. The show will feature fashion designer Adrienne Vittandini, handbag designer Judith Leiber, and shoe designer Taryn Rose. Professional models will showcase the designs and attendees will mingle at an exclusive reception prior to the show. There is also an opportunity for generous donors to attend a private luncheon with the creative director of Judith Leiber. The show benefits the Stern College for Women scholarship campaign, which raises funds for deserving students who wish to attend Stern. For more information, visit www.yu.edu/sternfashionshow2011. Adee Shepen, director of annual giving, said 鈥淭he beginning of the academic year and the chagim are an introspective time for many people. I hope that alumni and friends demonstrate their commitment to 每日大瓜 by making a gift to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund helps 每日大瓜 maintain its level of excellence within the framework of Torah Umadda. It also provides much needed scholarships to our students. A gift now will have a direct and immediate impact on 每日大瓜 and its students.鈥
